Wisdom from Space

Scott Giffords is the brother-in-law of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords the Arizona representative who is suffering through the effects of a serious assassination attempt. He is the commander of the International Space Station and has been forced to face his family’s tragedy while literally in space.

The following remarks were made by Giffords from the Internation Space Station directly to flight controllers in Houston.

“As I look out the window I see a very beautiful planet that seems very inviting and peaceful. Unfortunately, it is not. These days, we are constantly reminded of the unspeakable acts of violence and damage we can inflict upon one another, not just with our actions, but with our irresponsible words.”

It has often been said that we are moving into an “information age” where knowledge itself is said to be the prime mover and shaker of our experience. Humankind is busily engaged creating machines to move vast amounts of information and even to use that information to make independent decisions- but decisions based upon human precedent.

It is therefore of the utmost importance that the information we are creating and disseminating be information that leads to understanding between people and a lessening of tensions.

Let’s use our ingenuity and resources to master the demons that lie below the surface and use this unique time in history to create a future that emphasizes the positive abilities of the human race.

May the peaceful words of Scott Giffords be an inspiration to us all.
